Wahaca, the Mexican street food brand co-founded by Thomasina Miers and Mark Selby, saw turnover in its most recent financial year to the end of June 2015, climb from £28.2m to c£35m, M&C has learnt.

Selby told M&C that the group had enjoyed “excellent” trading over the last few months and that it would open its second site in the north west in Liverpool this November.

He also confirmed that the group was in talks to open in Chichester and in discussions to open its first regional D/F Mexico site at the extension to Intu’s Watford shopping scheme.

The company recently opened in Kentish Town and Middlesex Street in London and is set to open further sites in Bristol and Manchester for its core brand before the year end.

It will also open its second D/F Mexico in Tottenham Court Road before the year end.

Selby said he was delighted with how the more fast-casual-influenced D/F Mexico concept, which was launched last year in Spitalfields.

He said: “It has given us the opportunity to try new things and allow our staff to also try a different environment.”

Wahaca, which recently launched a taco bar at its Wardour Street site, will open its first site in the north west in Manchester later this summer in the redeveloped Corn Exchange scheme.

The company is looking to take part of the Cargo site in Chichester’s South Street, an opening that Selby admits will be significant for the business in assessing whether the brand can do well in regional town.

It has also secured a site at the Westquay Watermark development for next year.
