Pubs and supermarkets are bracing themselves for an invasion of thirsty Scots after a crackdown on cheap alcohol north of the border. The ruling Scottish National Party plans to ban happy hours, curb in-store offers and raise the legal age limit for buying drink in an off-licence to 21. Hypermarkets are expected to spring up in towns such as Carlisle and supermarket chain Asda is considering opening an alcohol distribution centre close to the border to cater for Scottish customers.
