Bingo clubs are to launch a £5m television advertising campaign. The aim is to change the image of the game and attract more middle-class players. Bingo is widely seen as appealing to 'elderly women in smoke-filled northern halls.'

The game was also badly hit when the National Lottery and scratch cards were launched. Now the National Bingo Game Association wants to get across the idea that more middle-class professionals are playing.
