Waiting is the biggest bugbear for diners who hate having to wait to order, pay and for food to arrive and see the use of mobile technologies as a way to overcome this.

That is according to a report by CGA Peach and Zonal Retail Data Systems, which shows time poor customers value quick service and convenience when eating out.

Having to wait for a table irritates one in 12 diners who find table management to be an issue and would like to see increased use of technology to resolve the issue.

One third of diners (34%) said they would be interested in using a mobile device to speed up ordering and more than half of 18-24 year olds agreed with this sentiment.

Despite the interest in using such technologies, the study found only 6% of consumers do actually use online payment methods and do not trust non-branded applications when ordering. The study therefore urges operators to use a customisable platform that can include an operator’s branding.

Waiting for food was the biggest complaint for 47% of diners who said food not arriving quickly enough was the number one frustration when eating out especially during the lunch period when time is limited.

At the end of a meal, being able to pay quickly and smoothly alleviates frustration for 17% of diners who want to see technology employed to improve the payment and experience.
