More than a third of operators (36%) have described their opening weeks of outdoor trading as a “decent start” while 22% say it has been “excellent”.

Lumina Intelligence’s Hospitality Leaders Poll found 9% only had marginal takings, while 33% of respondents have not been able to reopen yet.

Operators were split over enforcement of Covid regulations by local authorities, though more thought they were doing a bad job than a good job.

Just over a quarter of those asked (26%) gave a ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’ rating to local authorities enforcing Covid-19 rules since outdoor trading began, while 19% gave a ‘good’ or ‘very good’ rating.

A majority (72%) have given additional training to staff to get “match-fit” for reopening, with 42% giving “some” training, and 13% offering “a lot” of extra training.

Of those interviewed, (72%) are confident about the future of their business, down five percentage points on last week.
