Men were banned from all pubs, clubs and restaurants in the Colombian capital of Bogota for one night.

Mayor Antanas Mockus said he wanted to "liberate downtrodden women" while husbands and boyfriends stayed at home baby-sitting.

Only women police and fire officers were on duty for what was dubbed a "Night without Men".

But male strippers were given special dispensation to go out and entertain the ladies.
