Livebookings, the online table reservation company, has said that it processed a record 1.48 million covers in January, with Saturday 21st January its biggest booking day ever, with 84,000 diners seated. It said that in contrast to the general economic and consumer pessimism in January, the UK restaurant industry “continued to thrive” with demand for “innovative online reservation and marketing solutions remaining high”. Colin Tenwick, chief executive of Livebookings, said: “Despite an increasingly tough trading climate, restaurants continue to turn to online booking technology and mobile marketing to boost high levels of diners. Our service acts as a ‘recession-proof’ revenue stream for our restaurant partners – that’s why we continue to deliver record levels of covers every month, significantly more that our nearest competitor.”
