Wine has officially overtaken beer to become Britain’s favourite alcoholic drink, according to a TNS survey to be published in Marketing magazine this week. An estimated £1.97bn a year is spent on wine compared with £1.79bn on beer. The consumption of alcohol by British women rose 27% between 1998 and 2003.
