St David's Day, 1 March, will see the launch of Penderyn, a premium single malt whisky from Wales. The whisky, which the makers claim is the first from Wales for over a century, is being made at the Gwalia Distillery in the Brecon Beacons National Park by the Welsh Whisky Company. The company uses barley malt supplied by SA Brain. Brian Morgan, the chairman of the Welsh Whisky Company, said: "We wanted a high profile product that could sell Wales around the world. "Restarting whisky-making in Wales and creating a high quality single malt seemed the perfect idea."
