Bacardi is appealing against a decision by the American Patent Office to dismiss its bid to cancel the US trademark of its rival, the Cuban-made Havana Club rum.
Bacardi wants to launch its own Havana Club in the US and claims that Pernod Ricard fraudulently obtained the trademark.
The Cuban-made rum is currently banned in the States because of sanctions on the communist Castro regime.
But if those were lifted, the brand could grab a big share of the £1bn US rum market.
