John Smith's latest ad pairs Peter Kay, the northern comedian, with legendary crooner Englebert Humperdinck. Viewers will see Kay walking back from the bar carrying a tray of John Smith's bitter in a Las Vegas nightclub where Humperdinck is performing. As Humperdinck pauses to prepare for the rousing crescendo of "Release Me", his classic hit song, Kay cries out "Go!", bringing the singer and orchestra to a grinding halt, and mortifying his waiting friends and family. Kay, oblivious to the fact he has ruined Humperdinck's act, walks back to his seat telling the singer to "carry on". Kay, no stranger to club singers, having written and starred in Phoenix Nights, said: "The ad is cracking with a very funny script which gives me the chance to simply play myself. All in all, it's a dream job.
