A new brewery has begun production in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the former site of established brewer Hadrian & Border. The Tyne Bank Brewery has been founded by former chemical engineer Julia Austin, its managing director, and head brewer Mark McGarry, who previously worked for North Shields-based Mordue Brewery. In May the company moved into the 20-barrel site in Hawick Industrial Estate in Byker, which previously housed the Hadrian & Border Brewery until it moved to bigger premises earlier this year. Austin bought the assets of the brewery site in January. Tyne Bank Brewery has a distribution deal with Kuehne + Nagel to deliver across the north east. Its three beers - Monument Bitter, Castle Gold and Silver Dollar - are available from today, the company said. “Tyne Bank Brewery aims to sell the ales to independent pubs, wholesalers, chains, private individuals and event organisers,” the company said.
