The markets will be hoping for more information about the fate of Scottish & Newcastle's brewery in Newcastle when it reports its full-year results today (Monday). Speculation has focused this week on the possible closure of the brewery following the announcement that the Fountainhead Brewery in Edinburgh would shut after more than 150 years. Questor, in The Daily Telegraph, suggests holding on to the shares for now until more is known about further cost savings. Analysts are looking for pre-exceptional pre-tax profits of £460m to £465m. They are basing estimates on the full year. S&N will report profits for the eight months to the end of last December but it will also provide pro-forma figures for the full year. The results will be difficult to interpret after the change of year-end which proceeded the £2.51bn sale of the pubs division.
