An Institute of Alcohol Studies report has slammed the drinks industry for conducting a "systematic campaign" of manipulation by luring young people to its products over the internet.

Marketing Alcohol to Young People says manufacturers often ignore voluntary codes with advertisements that appeal directly to the youth market.

One example given is the Budweiser website, which offers free e-mail and electronic postcards. The institute also criticises Budweiser's popular television advertisement. Anheuser-Busch, the brewer of Budweiser, said it was wrong to blame advertising for teenage drinking.
