Diageo, the global drinks firm, is reportedly set to shrink its management team across its European operations as part of the group’s focus on emerging markets, with the UK marketing director role set to be abolished According to Marketing Magazine, Philip Gladman, the company’s current UK marketing director, will move to lead the global marketing of its white spirit brands, such as Smirnoff. The magazine said that country director roles are also likely to be scrapped as part of the cost-cutting initiative, with holders of regional roles to be given extra responsibilities. In May, Diageo announced plans to restructure its international business to focus on fast growing emerging markets. Paul Walsh, chief executive, said the review of the company’s operating model would encompass changes to the company’s regional structure and the organisation of its central functions. Previously the company’s operations were organised across four regions, America, Asia Pacific, Europe and International.
