Diageo, the drinks giant behind major brands including Guinness and Smirnoff, has announced two new internal appointments to the roles of country director for Britain and Ireland. Andrew Cowan takes the role of country director in Britain from 1 September. He is currently commercial director for the Irish business and will report in to Andrew Morgan, president of Diageo Europe. Diageo said: “In the new role he will be responsible for leading the GB spirits and beer business by driving the commercial agenda and encouraging a customer-centric focus country-wide. Andrew will also lead Diageo GB’s external agenda with key government, media, trade and consumer stakeholders.” David Smith, currently sales director of Diageo GB, is to make the reverse move across the Irish sea to become country director for Ireland from 1 September. He will report to Diageo’s chief operating officer for Western Europe, John Kennedy.
