Growing demand for champagne could soon bring an end to cut-prices. American, Canadian and Japanese consumers are prepared to pay high prices for premium-branded products. As a result champagne grapes are now selling for a record Eu5 a kilo, up from Eu4 in 2000. Some growers are having to pay Eu6 per kilo for smaller orders.
