C&C Group, the Irish owner of the Magners and Gaymers cider brands, has announced that Liam Fitzgerald is to stand down as non-executive director on 29 February, the day chief executive John Dunsmore leaves his post. Fitzgerald, chief executive of healthcare services company United Drug, was appointed non-executive at C&C Group in 2004, when the firm first floated on the Irish stock exchange. Brian Stewart, C&C Group chairman, said: “On behalf of the board and the group, I would like to thank Liam for his contribution since his appointment as a director on C&C’s initial public offering in 2004. We wish Liam well for the future.” Last year C&C Group announced that Dunsmore is to be replaced as chief executive by current chief operating officer and finance director Stephen Glancey. The announcement fueled speculation linking Dunsmore with the vacant chief executive position at Mitchells & Butlers.
