Anheuser Busch’s sponsorship deal for the World Cup 2006 in Germany has angered the country’s brewers, who object to Budwieser being the event’s official beer. According to contact conditions local firms are only allowed to do trade at the matches if they are 'not competition for the sponsor'. Hermann Winkler, president of the State of Saxony Sports Federation, said: "A lot of breweries support sports in Saxony but the minute there's a little money to be earned, they're left out in the cold." Bavarian Beer Club member Ottmar Riesing, quoted in the Evening Standard, said: "I wouldn't wash my car in it. It's bubble-gum beer."
