Starbucks has replaced milk with soy milk in 330 of its outlets in China following news that three of the country’s best known brands of liquid milk had been tainted with the chemical melamine. The government said 24 batches of milk from 295 samples taken from three brands – Mengniu, Yili and Guangming – were found to be tainted. Mengniu was the sole supplier for Starbucks in China until its involvement in the scandal was confirmed; Starbucks said Mengniu milk had been withdrawn from its shops and that there was no evidence of any customers falling ill.
