YO! Sushi, the conveyor-belt restaurant operator, will this summer reach the milestone of 50 UK restaurants after a trio of new launches. The company, led by Robin Rowland and backed by private equity firm Quilvest, will unveil new restaurants in London’s Market Place and Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays at the end of April, before launching a third new outlet in Milton Keynes in June. The three openings will mean that the company has launched six UK restaurants in 2010 – it has already opened in Bath, Southampton and within the Edinburgh branch of Harvey Nichols. The company, which has an overseas presence in the Middle East, Malaysia, Russia and Ireland through franchise partnerships, has just opened two more restaurants in the Gulf region, including its first in Kuwait – at the 360 Mall. The group now has eight restaurants in the region, with a ninth set to open in the Mail of Dhahran in Saudi Arabia in August. It has a total of 18 restaurants overseas. Rowland, chief executive, told M&C Report that the company aims to open four more UK restaurants before the end of the year.
