Businesses have blamed mixed trading on the World Cup but The Daily Telegraph says it is a lame excuse. Greene King said while sales of drinks jumped more than 70% on one of the England mach days, the amount sold in food fell 17%. The newspaper says businesses are just as likely to do badly out of the World Cup as they are to benefit from it but, either way, the event provides a convenience excuse. It says the most unexpected one came from La Tasca which said the tournament had hit trading despite the fact only 30% of its customers are men. The Daily Telegraph 08/07/06 page 31
