Turtle Bay, the Caribbean restaurant concept developed by one of the founders of Las Iguanas, has confirmed it will open its third site in October in Nottingham. As revealed by M&C Report earlier this summer, the group, which is led by Ajith Jaya-Wickrema, has secured the Strada unit in the city’s Cornerhouse complex. However, it recently pulled out of a deal to secure its first site in Bristol. Jayawickrema said: “We are trying to recreate a holiday vibe right here in Nottingham with our open street kitchen and island beach bar. We want to offer our customers something unique, after all everyone has tried the likes of Italian, Chinese and American food. “Nottingham seemed like a fantastic choice for our third restaurant and The Cornerhouse is a perfect location in the city centre, close to the theatre and the two universities.” The chain opened its second site last July in the Guildhall in Southampton. The first Turtle Bay opened in the final quarter of 2010 in Mortimer Square, the Hub, Milton Keynes. Jaya-Wickrema launched Las Iguanas together with Eren Ali, in Bristol in 1991. He stood down from that business in August 2009 and is also a board member of Tampopo, the East Asian noodle house concept, as an investing director.
