Richard Caring, the restaurant entrepreneur behind a clutch of high end restaurants, has confirmed plans for an opening of The Ivy in Dubai. Caring’s Caprice Holdings, whose brands include The Ivy, Scott’s, Le Caprice, Rivington Grill and J Sheekey, signed a deal in August with the Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based hotel and restaurant business. He said: “I came out and said four or five years ago that there was only one Ivy, it was an iconic restaurant and there would never be another one. “I sound a bit like a Liberal Democrat politician, because things have changed. The deal that we were offered, on the basis of us staying in control and maintaining the image, was too good to turn down.” The Dubai version is the first product of the partnership with Jumeirah, and will open in the Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai in April. Caring said other Caprice brands would open in Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Egypt, though no firm decisions had been taken. Separate to the Jumeirah partnership is a deal to launch a Le Caprice restaurant in Beirut, as well as versions of Annabel’s and Harry’s Bar, private members’ clubs in Caring’s Birley Group.
