TGI Friday’s, the bar-restaurant brand led in the UK by Karen Forrester, is set to add a further four sites to its estate this year, including the opening of its 50th site in September, at Westfield Stratford City. The company, which is owned by Carlson, the US-based hotel and restaurant chain, is currently in talks to open sites in Manchester city centre and in the MetroCentre in Newcastle. The group. Which opened its 49th UK site in Aberdeen, hopes to add a further site before the end of the year to taking its estate to 53. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to open 16 sites in the UK across the next five years after reporting sales of £105.3m for the 51 weeks and three days to 26 December 2010, up from £99.5m for the full year in 2009, a 3.7% rise on a like-for-like basis. Carlson said it planned to double the size of its TGI Friday's bar and restaurant chain now that the hospitality industry is recovering, with expansion in Britain a key focus. The company, which acquired the remaining 60% stake in TGI Friday’s in the UK for $50m (£31.96m) last July, currently operates 600 restaurant in the US and over 900 in 60 other countries around the world.
