Property investor Robert Tchenguiz has taken control of a 3% stake in Whitbread, through his R20 investment vehicle. R20 acquired the holding through contracts for difference, giving him control over 5.5 million shares. Whitbread rose 1.3% in mid-afternoon trading, or 18 pence, to £13.90. Mark Brumby, analyst with Blue Oar Securities, said that the group would retain its Buy recommendation. “A Tchenguiz stake is probably not what it was. Should the shares run sharply on this news we would be inclined to sell a few,” said Brumby.
