Taco Bell, the Yum! Brands owned Mexican burrito fast food concept, is to open its second site in the UK. The group is set to open another franchised outlet at the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Basildon, Essex. The launch follows the opening of the UK’s first Taco Bell site – after the company pulled out of the country in the 1990s – in May this year at Lakeside. Like its sister site, the Eastgate unit will offer a range of tacos, burritos, nachos and quesadillas, with prices starting at just 79p. A spokesman for the group said: “The company is already developing a strong following in the UK, with the Lakeside restaurant receiving positive feedback and recording strong sales since opening at the end of June. “Some customers have travelled over 100 miles just to sample the Taco Bell menu, and the Taco Bell UK Facebook page already has almost 2,000 Facebook fans.” Nick Dawson, the general manager of Taco Bell in UK & Europe, said the first site at the Lakeside shopping centre, was just the first “in host of potential sites in high footfall areas” earlier this year and that it was aiming for a “substantial presence”.
