Singapore will open 50 new restaurants on three outlying islands with the reinstatement of a previously shelved tourism project. A 290-room five-star hotel, a 170-room three-star hotel, resort apartments and bungalows and 180 shops will also be included in the plans to develop St Johns, Lazarus and Rengget.

The project was originally launched in 1996 but the Asian economic crisis a year later meant it was shelved.

The total project will take five years to complete.
