Welcome Break chief executive Rod McKie banned The Observer from taking photographs of £5 sandwiches and other food being served at its 26 motorway service stations. Restaurant critic Jay Rayner visited the company's Oxford premises on the M40 looking for sea bass and risotto, which press handouts had promised. McKie later told him the items had been taken off the menu because they "did not appeal to the customer" but said they did a "great" beef Wellington. Rayner concluded his article by advising anybody hoping to eat well on Britain's motorways to take a packed lunch. The Observer 14/05/06 page 18
