San Carlo, the Italian restaurant chain, has acquired the Flying Pizza restaurant at the Roundhay, in Leeds. The company now plans to invest £1m in the venue, which was acquired from administrators PKF. The locally-renowned Flying Pizza has been trading for 35 years. Marcello Distefano, group director at San Carlo, said: “We’re thrilled to acquire Flying Pizza, a restaurant with such a great history. As a family we often ate there in its hey-day and our intention is to lavishly restore it to its former glory. The venue remains open for business but plans include a full refurbishment and new menus which embrace our signature, great, authentic Italian food.” San Carlo, which is led by Marcello and his father Carlo, currently runs restaurants under its eponymous brand in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool and Manchester. It is also operates a site under its new tapas-style concept, Cicchetti by San Carlo, in Manchester, and the Signor Sassi restaurant in Knightsbridge Green, London.
