Quilvest, the private equity backer of YO! Sushi, has acquired a stake in Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, the fast-growing US pizza chain. The company, which took a minority stake in Tortilla, the Mexican fast-casual dining concept just before Christmas, is backing the 32-strong chain’s existing management and a further roll out of the brand across the US. Quilvest invested £3.5m in the seven-strong London-based Tortilla chain, which will lead to a substantial rollout of the brand over the next five years. It acquired YO! Sushi, the fast-casual Japanese restaurant chain, in March 2008 in a deal thought to be worth about £50m. Under Quilvest’s ownership, YO! Sushi has grown its UK estate from 30 sites to 56. The private equity group also holds a stake in Pomme de Pain, the French sandwich chain.
