Gondola Holdings, the restaurant group that owns Pizza Express, ASK and Zizzi, has unveiled headline trading figures and future opening plans ahead of its IPO. The group said that in the 16 weeks to 16 October – the end of its financial year – revenues across the business increased 6.3%. Like-for-like sales were ahead 3.2%. A certain number of the group’s 497 restaurants experienced short-term trading disruptions triggered by the July bombings. Gondola plans to open between 20 and 25 restaurants next year, with more than half of the total opening in the second six months. The group has opened two new restaurants, a Zizzi in Whitstable and a Pizza in the Park in Knightsbridge. The group currently has six sites under construction, which are expected to open by this December. The group’s main private equity backers, TDR Capital and Capricorn Ventures, do not plan to sell any of their holdings in the business. The two groups own about 80% of the company between them.
