Pasta has been named as the world’s favourite food in a new global survey, which highlights the how Western diets have spread across the world. The survey by Oxfam, which included the results of an independent poll conducted in 17 countries and featuring over 16,000 people, shows that although national dishes are still popular, pizza and pasta are now the favourite foods of many, with more than half of the countries, listing one of both in their top three foods. Chinese and sushi, also proved popular, making it into the top 10 in Russia, Brazil, Mexico, the US and South Africa. Traditional meals such as maize continued to hold sway in African nations. Despite the popularity of a Western diet, KFC only made it into 107th place just ahead of McDonald’s at 113 in the survey’s list.
