Jamie Oliver is struggling to get his chain of “affordable” Italian restaurants off the ground, he tells The Sunday Telegraph’s Mandrake column. Oliver said it was going well but he had not thought there would be a recession. “It’s f****** difficult to combine amazing provenance of food at cheap prices,” he is quoted as saying. The Oxford bistro, where he says there have been queues, is still the only outlet. He had been scheduled to launch a Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Bath in the spring but it still has not opened. He says he plans to open it next month. Oliver refused to discuss ventures in Brighton and Cambridge that had been planned. The Sunday Telegraph 07/09/08 page 11
