Jamie Oliver, the high-profile chef, is set to further increase his presence in the UK’s eating out sector with plans to launch a new chain of restaurants called Union Jack’s, at the same time it has emerged that California will be the first US location for his Jamie’s Italian brand. No details have been forthcoming on what the Union Jack’s chain will feature, although the title suggests that it may focus on traditional British dishes. A spokesman for Oliver said: “We are working on a new restaurant concept called Union Jack’s but we are at an early stage with this and the exact type of food on offer hasn’t been decided.” Separately, California has been named as the destination for the first US branch of Jamie’s Italian, although no opening date has been set. A US opening has been a long time target of the group, which is tipped to float next year. The first international Jamie’s Italian opened in Dubai, with a further site set to follow this year in Sydney. The chef’s currently operates 18 sites in the UK under his Jamie’s Italian brand and recently signed up to open in the new Westfield Stratford City development that opens in September. The chain is set to reach 25 sites by the end of this year.
