Charlie McLean has been named as managing director of CAU, the casual dining steakhouse concept and sister group to Gaucho. McLean, who has been overseeing CAU since its launch in the UK in Guildford last year, will continue as finance and commercial director at Gaucho. The group, which is backed by Intermediate Capital Group, will open its second site in the UK in Cambridge later this year, with a further five planned over the next 18 months. The company opened the original CAU in the Damstraat area of Amsterdam. Earlier this year, McLean said the group thought CAU could eventually grow to a 30-40-strong estate in the UK. McLean told M&C Report that 10 locations across the South of England had already been identified for future openings. He said: “I look forward to continuing to work with the operational and creative teams as we build the brand in the UK.” The rest of the concept’s team feature Patsy Godik, who is creative director of both CAU and Gaucho, and Alex Rojas, operations manager, who has 15 years’ experience in restaurant management, working with groups such as Zizzi's, Group Chez Gerard and, for the last five years, Gaucho.
