McDonald’s UK plans to open ten to 15 new restaurants this year. The new sites, which will include a number of motorway services locations, will create round 3,000 jobs. The company currently has 1,200 UK restaurants. McDonald’s yesterday revealed that group consolidated revenues had increased 6% to a record-high of $24b (£15bn). Group net income for 2010 increased 9% to $4.6bn (£2.8bn). Although it said its new financial year had started strongly, with comparable group sales up 4% to 5%, UK boss Jill McDonald expects 2011 to be a tough year, with consumers under pressure as inflation rises putting household finances under strain.
