McDonald's is still the biggest foodservice brand in Europe, it was revealed today at the European Foodservice Summit in Zurich, Switzerland. The burger behemoth last year recorded sales of euros 11.8bn. Second was Compass, before SSP was sold, with annual revenues of euros 10bn. French contract catering giants Sodexho and Elior were third and fourth with sales of euros 5.4bn and 2.8bn respectively. Mitchells & Butlers, the pub and restaurant group, was fifth with sales of euros 2.4bn. These groups were followed by Burger King, Yum! Brands, Accor, and LSG, the German contract caterer. Rounding off the top 10, based on 2004-2005 figures, was Spirit Group, the managed pub group now owned by Punch Taverns. The top 111 restaurant and foodservice groups in Europe produce combined annual sales of euros 72bn, up 12% on the previous year. The Foodservice Summit is organised jointly by FoodService Europe & Middle East magazine, the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute for economic and social studies and by the University of Central Florida.
