The snow failed to derail McDonald’s growth in the fourth quarter with the territory and Europe as a whole posting sales increases. This capped a strong full-year performance for McDonald’s, which saw comparable group sales increase 5%, with Europe recording a 3.4% gain. Consolidated revenues at the fast-food chain increased 6% (5% in constant currencies) to a record-high of $24b (£15bn). Group net income for 2010 increased 9% to $4.6bn (£2.8bn). Jim Skinner, chief executive of McDonald’s, said: "Every day, more than 62 million customers around the world choose our restaurants. During 2010, we continued our efforts toward becoming our customers' favourite place and way to eat and drink - and customers rewarded us by visiting our restaurants more often.” McDonald’s said it had made a strong start to the year with comparable sales up 4% to 5%.
