McDonald's saw like-for-like sales rise by 6.5% in October as performance was helped by new beverages like Smoothies, its low-price Dollar Menu and by restaurant renovations. The world's largest hamburger chain said October sales at restaurants open at least 13 months were up 5.6% in the United States, up 5.8% in Europe and up 5.3% in Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, The company cited healthy demand in France, the United Kingdom and Russia for the strong performance of its European unit, while the Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa region was boosted by sales growth in Japan, China and Australia. Systemwide sales, which includes sales at restaurants operated by the company as well as franchisees, rose 7.4 %, or 7.8% in constant currencies, for the month.
