McDonald’s has challenged the concept of a “McJob” as defined in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED). The dictionary defines the word, first coined in the 80s, as “an unstimulating unskilled job with few prospects, especially one created by the expansion of the service sector”. The restaurant chain is preparing a public petition to get the definition changed to reflect a job that they say is ”stimulating and rewarding”, offering “genuine opportunities for career progression and skills that last a lifetime.” Financial Times 26/5/07 page 8 (Comment) The Independent 26/5/07 page 29 (btw)
