Lydons restaurant in Wimbledon Village is to become a new fine dining venue, after being acquired restaurateurs Joshua Khan and Akbar Ashurov. The pair paid a £300,000 premium for the restaurant, which comprises ground floor and basement totalling 2,400sq ft and is located close to a Carluccios’, Café Rouge and the Dog & Fox pub. They have agreed to take a 20-year lease at a rent of £85,000 per annum on the restaurant, which will remain as Lydons during the summer before being redeveloped. Josh Leon, of Davis Coffer Lyons, which acted on behalf of Lydons restaurant owner John Lydon, said: "Wimbledon Village is a very special place, where prices are consistently more in line with prime Chelsea than a suburban village in zone 3. Lydon has operated his restaurant for a number of years and I know he has a loyal following but there is an opportunity here for the new owners to modernise and cater to a younger crowd if they wish. They've done their research and they certainly had a baptism of fire by taking the reins in the middle weekend of the tennis fortnight.”
