The company bidding to acquire the pizza restaurant chain Ask Central said this morning it had received acceptances from shareholders representing 46% of the company's stock when the first closing date for the offer passed yesterday. City Centre Restaurants, which changed its name last week to The Restaiurant group, said it would now be extending the offer for seven days until 3pm on January 26. However, most Ask shareholders seem to be waiting to see if TDR Capital, the current co-owner of PizzaExpress, which said a fortnight ago it might counter City Centre's recommended offer, will actually come up with a bid, or if someone else, such as Luke Johnson, the former PizzaExpress chairman, will make an offer.. Meanwhile the Office of Fair Trading announced that it would not be referring the merger to the Competition Commission.
