Jamie’s Italian, the casual dining chain spearheaded by Jamie Oliver, has opened its first site in Australia, in Sydney. The 200-cover restaurant in the city's Pitt Street is the first to be opened by the Pacific Restaurant Group (PRG), which holds the franchise for the brand in Australia and New Zealand. PRG is Australia’s only publicly owned, full service restaurant group. It is thought that PRG, of which director Adam Heathcote is overseeing the role out the brand in the region, has already identified a further opportunity in Sydney and one in Brisbane to roll out the concept. Jamie’s opened its sixth site in London and 23rd in total earlier this month in Threadneedle Street on the site of a former branch of the Bank of Scotland. The chain, which also operates a further international site in Dubai, aims to have 25 sites opened in the UK by the end of the year.
