Jamie’s Italian, the casual dining chain spearheaded by Jamie Oliver, is understood to have targeted York as an opening location for next year, after submitting a licence to operate a site above a pub in the city. The group is thought to be interested in operating a site above the Greene King run Lendal Cellars pub in the city centre. According to the York Press, a decision on a proposal by Greene King to convert empty sections of the site is expected to be made by the local council later this month. This week the 18-strong chain, which hopes to operate 25 sites by the end of the year, secured its first site in Edinburgh, after taking a unit in the city’s Assembly Rooms.
