Hummingbird Bakery, the US-style cupcake chain, is to make its international debut in Dubai later this month after signing a franchise deal to open up to 20 sites over the next 10 years across the Middle East. Founded by Tarek Malouf in 2004, the group has signed a deal with Daud Arabian for its Middle East venture, which will see it open sites in Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. Its first site under the agreement will open in Dubai Mall. It is thought that the new agreement will equate to a total investment of £8m over the 10 years. Hummingbird, which operates five sites in London, is also understood to be talks with prospective franchisees in China, India and Russia. Malouf, who founded the chain in 2004, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to now be in the final stages of becoming an international brand. We now look forward to the exciting challenge of brining the Hummingbird Bakery’s brand of high quality American baking to the world.” Daud Arabian has brought a number of brands to the Middle East, including YO! Sushi, Pinkberry and Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
