Gondola Group has secured a new lease on Soho Pizzeria, the central London-based restaurant and jazz bar part-owned by Pizza Express founder Peter Boizot. The group is thought to have secured the site in Beak Street for an undisclosed sum under £1m. It is understood to have beaten off competition from Nando’s and Prezzo to secure the site on a new 25-year lease, which will continue to operate under the Soho Pizzeria name for the foreseeable future. M&C Report understands that restaurateur and founder of Wagamama Alan Yau was also thought to be interested in the site for a new Turkish-influenced concept he has been developing. Nick Weir, director at Shelley Sandzer, which acted for Soho Pizzeria, said: “Gondola was not the highest bidder, but clearly the vendors had an emotional link to Pizza Express.”
