Burger King aims to have 1,000 stores in China before 2015, with most restaurants owned by franchisees. A company spokeswoman told Nation’s Restaurant News that the "market has the potential for 1,000 units over the next 10 years. However, we have announced no specific plans or targets." The company opened its first mainland China restaurant at the end of June in Shanghai and is expected to have more than 10 units by the end of the year.
