Just six British restaurants have made it into Restaurant magazine's new list of the world's 50 best eating places. The Ivy, the River Café, the Waterside Inn at Bray and Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons have all been dumped. Last year Britain led the pack with 14 restaurants in the top 50, and the Fat Duck at Bray declared the world's best. Although the Fat Duck still makes the list, Britain is now in joint third place behind France with 10 entries and the USA with eight. But London is still the second best city in which to eat, with five entries compared to Paris's seven. The Observer 09/04/06 page 5
