Sources close to Yellowhammer Bars, the company that runs outlets formerly part of Sports Café and Candu Entertainment, has denied it is on the market, writes Paul Charity. The Mail on Sunday claimed at the weekend that the business was being sold by owner Agilo with a price tag of £18m. Yellowhammer came into being in 2008 after the purchase of five Sports Café venues and 23 Candu bars and clubs. The business is led by James Spragg, the former commercial director of Novus Leisure. Source close to Agilo have insisted the newspaper report is wrong. A source said: “Contrary to some press speculation, Agilo has not put Yellowhammer Bars up for sale. The decision to exit a couple of Sports Cafes is driven by the strategy to focus investment on higher returning club brands, which include Chilli White and Bliss club rooms which have been performing strongly.”
